Paul Mitchell the School Atlanta Neighborhood Profile – Octane Coffee!

Being in the cosmetology industry, caffeine and coffee tend to be more of an asset than a craving. Luckily, Paul Mitchell the School Atlanta is located walking distance from one of the top 10 coffee shops in the country, according to Bon Appétit. This especially unique café is without a doubt one of the most innovative local businesses around. In a sense, they have set the stepping stones for other businesses in the Westside Atlanta area.

People flock to Octane not only for it’s great coffee and pastries, but also for it’s distinct artistic presence. It’s a place where you can be surrounded by people on their laptops, yet still feel relaxed thanks to the comfortable atmosphere. Octane has been greatly influential for an abundance of the modern Westside art scene that has been and still is developing, including sponsoring Modern Atlanta this past year (http://www.modern-atlanta.org). Octane is also the host of Atlanta Pecha Kucha (http://www.atlantapechakucha.com), which gives artists a chance to show off their work by a presentation in Octane every month. Regardless of your reason for going, your visit to Octane will undoubtedly be a welcoming one complete with a sense of unforgettable awe and appreciation for this distinguished business.

CNN.com: Hair Salons Thrive in Spite of Economy

National article from CNN.com – “If you are looking for an industry that’s thriving even during these tough times, look to the hair industry. It may be the closest thing to recession-proof.”

While families were losing their homes to foreclosure, and businesses by the hundreds where closing up shop, an article by Athena Jones for CNN suggests the beauty industry is thriving. According to census data nationwide, there were 18.6% more barbershops and 14.4% more beauty salons in 2009 than in 2007. Watch the compelling video and read the article at:

John Paul DeJoria on 20/20 Tonight!

In these troubled times, Barbara Walters shares advice for viewers worth listening to from four self-made, out-of-the-box creators and thinkers who made it big the old fashioned way – by creating products that people want. They didn’t make money by shuffling other people’s money around, which has been the focus of the Occupy Wall Street movement. They are four unique and surprisingly different billionaires who tell their stories of how they made it and now how they give back. They impart their wisdom and tips that can put viewers on the road to huge success, too:

  • John Paul DeJoria, a once homeless visionary who built two iconic companies Paul Mitchell hair care and Patron Spirits tequila
  • Lynn Tilton, who specializes in buying companies and breathing new life into them
  • Guy Laliberte, creator of Cirque du Soleil
  • Tony Hsieh, CEOof billion dollar business Zappos.

Laliberte, who went from street performer to billionaire circus ring leader, also gives “20/20″ a first look at his new Michael Jackson extravaganza.

“Billionaire Secrets: What They Know That Can Change Your Life” airs on “20/20″ on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 28 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

David Sloan is executive producer.

It’s a Wrap!

The fun-raising season has come to a close! From February to April Paul Mitchell the School Atlanta worked really hard in raising money for the fabulous charities that make up the Magic of Memories! Through cook outs, bake sales, the Carnival, Ladies Night, and of course, the fashion show we were able to raise $14,500!
In order to turn our money in our Director, Emily Allen, and our owners, Rob Brinson and Scott Cole, went out to California for the bi-annual owners Summit. It was here that they submitted our hard work, and participated in the Magic of Memories dinner where the top 20 schools were announced. They, along with Wendy, one of our Learning Leaders, and Sandra Espinoza, the Director of the Phoenix school, got to meet the celebrities for who’s charities we raised money.

Rob, Emily, Wendy, Dolly Parton, Sandra Espinoza, & Scott Cole.
