On Saturday, March 20, 2010 we really set the night off at Opera night club with a rockin’ fashion show! It was all apart of our annual FUN-raiser for charity. This year the five charities that we are rasing awareness for are: Andrew Gomez Dream Foundation, Children’s Miracle Network, Food for Africa, Larry King Cardiac Foundation, and Leeza’s Place. Tickets we $20 for general admission, and $50 to throw it down V.I.P style in the balcony suites.
There were performances by Sky Broadus (one of our very own Future Professionals!) and by Carly Krantz. All of the amazing dance numbers by Apollo Levine and his dance group, Fallen Goddesses kept the crowd going. The amazing clothing and accessories for all the models came from Francesca’s, HBC Vintage, Poor Little Rich Girl, Dean Pardue, Ooh La La, Mahogany Me, Adrene Boutique, and Jolie ; while the hair and make up was done by all of our Future Professionals.
Experience the event yourself by looking at what photographer Leon Dales captured on this amazing night! Just go to his link: http://www.photoshelter.com/c/leondale/gallery-list
Thanks from help from local vendors like Loca Luna who donated all the food, we were able to put together our best show to date!
Everyone had a great time, and we did an amazing job and raised over $8200 in just one shining night!

Today must really be lucky! Today our guest artist was Dwight Eubanks of Purple Door Salon and of The Real Housewives of Atlanta fame! After appearing on Good Day Extra he came to the school to share his story and to talk about professionalism in the industry.
He shared his story-coming up from two generations of preachers, and his struggles of being accepted for what he liked to do. It was his grandmother who helped to inspire him to follow his dreams. At the age of 18 he left home and moved to Canada where he started doing freelance work between there and New York. After working in Canada for a while, her returned to the United States and worked as a stylist with SAKS for the next 5 years. After working in the fashion world he then bought an exisiting salon where he struggled with the ins and outs of owning a salon which was just the beginning of his successful career.
Dwight discussed how he feels he doesn’t have a particular love, that fashion and hair are like a marriage and they work together to create the desired result. He intrigued the students when he talked about his travels to major fashion capitols like Dubai, Milan, and Paris; as well as when he talked about his experiences with the glamorous world of fashion week and celebrities.
He talked about hair dressers giving cosmetology a good name by maintaining an outstanding professional image. Always the sharp dresser, he talked about always looking the part even if don’t feel like it that day (which is very similar to Paul Mitchell’s belief of fake it till you make it). You are a walking representation of yourself, and you represent your work. So make it work!
